We met when Scott was 15 and I, 14 years of age, 19th May 2000. It was a Friday evening and it was a warm spring evening. My friend desperately wanted to do something and convinced my sister and I to go for a walk. As we walked past the green lion pub, I’m told Scott heard female laughter and curiosity drove him into my path. I was a bit of a geek, discovering makeup and decided a midnight blue eyeshadow would go wonderfully with my pale complexion! I was wearing navy blue trousers that were a bit worn, and a cream cardigan that I was a bit attached to! You could say not the best first impression!
I remember catching Scott’s eye, and he definitely had charm and presence even for a 15 year old. His smile glowed and I felt for the very first time, an indescribable excitement for the future. We continued to see eachother every day. Scott made me feel excited, content, happy but most of all, I felt I could be me, warts and all, 100%!
I remember having a conversation with Scott’s friend Craig. We were sitting on a bench, sun beaming down at the green lion pub, Scott’s home. He asked me my feelings for Scott. I simply replied, “I know he is the one for me, I know I’ll be with him for life”. We would hold hands and it was the most wonderful feeling, we would kiss and I was full of butterflies. Then one day I phoned Scott from the telephone box a few minutes away from my house as we didn’t quite have a mobile phone then! We was generally chatting probably about Scott’s GCSEs, school, what to do that weekend and Craig David! Then Scott paused for a moment, and then asked, “Vicky, would you like to go out with me?” (In other words asked to be a couple). I remember grinning so much and wanted to shout yes! However, being the type that feels one shouldn’t give one away so freely, I said to Scott, “I’ll think about it! “Bless Scott I think he was a bit shocked, but I wouldn’t keep him waiting for long. Of course I went to see him and said, “YES!”
Looking back at that time, we truly believe that somewhere, whether it was heaven, a spiritual plain, a force of nature or fate, our paths were planned to cross and consequently experience what first loves mean. We have shared so many “firsts” that now we want to live our lives together and share so many “lasts”.
